You are keen sportsmen and sportswomen, you record your every activity - mountain hikes, bike rides, running workouts, you name it. You are also keen collectors of insteresting tips for trips - you know the best way how to explore new places is go along routes planned and ridden by locals. So you import loads of routes from GPSies, Bikemap or Alltrails. And besides, you're also a keen route planner - you like to plan trips for your vacations. You often ride or hike the planned routes but a lot of them stays just planned in your mobile. Just for keeps, you hope you'll get back to them sometimes. You save all these tracks and routes to various folders, yes, but... how to find the right one after some time?

Search for it! Where?

Besides the general Search in the topbar:

new Locus Map 3.36 can start searching directly from the Tracks manager:

or, even more directly, from (in) a particular track/route folder:

Show me the nearest route from here!

By default, Locus searches your tracks and routes by their distance from your current location. You don't have to fill anything in the search field, just tap the magnifier button:

During the search Locus Map analyses whole tracks and routes, not just their starting points so you can begin your trip in the middle of the nearest route passing by. If you need to specify the search by route title, put it in the search field:

Locus can also search whole track descriptions, just check the box:

To change location of the searching center, tap the "My location" to edit its coordinates:

or select search center from other places provided by the location selector:

Search the route in my 'bike' folder

Another news of this issue is option to filter search by particular folders. You can either specify folder in the "Track manager search":

or go to a particular folder and start searching from there as can be seen above.

You can search points the same way - from points manager or folders:

Fancy a bit more climb?

Elevation gain is one of the most important criteria, especially among road cyclist and mountain bikers. Newly you can sort your routes or tracks by elevation gain and select one you are feeling strong enough to ride today:

Some more improvements

As usual, the new version is full of minor improvements and fixes. Among others: more options in Presets and Quick settings, updated list of Garmin icons, support of icons coloring in POI alert and Parking etc. etc.

Install and enjoy!

Despite the summer vacations are only a bit behind its middle, we have been extensively developing and testing. Huge work has been done on the new Route planner and Track editor - both in brand new screens, new UI, with new functionality. However, we are still not absolutely satisfied with them and we must also include results of their public testing in their final appearance so a bit more work must be done on them. So, you have to look forward to them a little longer :). Nevertheless, we decided to publish a new Locus version as we managed to finish many other things:

Map language switch - read the map as locals

Our World is pretty colorful, you know that. And not only in colors but also in languages and alphabets. Latin alphabet is generally known but in many countries a Westerner has problem with reading local names. Fortunately, the OpenStreetMap project enables displaying multi-language names of cities and villages in many countries. For example, Laos. A beautiful country with booming tourism, luring more and more adventurers. Laos alphabet, however, might be quite tricky for many of them. Our LoMaps, rendered from OSM data, can help - you can switch the language of the map in something more understandable.

Map with original names:

The language switch can be found in the map detail screen:

The same map after switching it to English:

Online GraphHopper - fast and data-efficient

We've added a new online routing service to our portfolio - online GraphHopper. Some of you have probably used its offline version in Locus via a GraphHopper add-on which is, to be honest, still in a sort of alpha version. This online version, however, works amazingly fast and consumes only a tiny portion of your mobile data (FUP) - in a range of just tens of kilobytes. Here in Europe where the extra charges for data roaming have been abolished it's pretty nice.

To turn this router on, go to Locus settings > Navigation > Navigation data source and tap GraphHopper:

When you want to start navigation, just choose your target and then means of your transport (a.k.a. navigation profile). GraphHopper offers "car", three kinds of bike - "cycle", "MTB" and "racing" and two types of walk - "walk" and "hike":

Function panels settings in presets

Many of you wished to have the option to set different layouts of function panels for various activities with one or two clicks:

Since launching Locus Presets we've been close to it. Now, finally, we found a way how to implement function panels settings in Presets. If you need to re-set function panels position by one click, you have to switch this option on first:

1. open Presets and check the "advanced mode" in the topbar:

2. Select the Preset you want to adjust and tap "Edit":

3. Go to the Preset settings mode:

4. Check the "Set functions panels" option:

The option to set functions panels appears in the Preset. You can set the panels as you are used to.

Pick the right color!

Locus line color manager has been also significantly improved. Firstly, we reworked the basic color selection so that it contains colors easily distinguishable on map:

You don't have to confirm your color selection as before. Just tap the color and your new line color is set.

The advanced color picker stays as it was because it's just perfect :):

For super-geeks we've added an option to define colors by codes - in HEX, RGB and HSV modes:

Nice, isn't it? And, of course, it's not all but we don't want you to spent your vacation reading the whole list of changes, improvements and fixes the new version offers. And if by any chance you are interested, you can find it on the traditional place - in Locus menu > About application > Release notes.

You say, so early? It was not so long ago when we presented the 3.22 version full of news here. As you know very well, Locus Map is a never ending story of improvement and tuning. This time we aren't going to shine upon you with ultra highlights, however, there has been so much work done by our super-powerful developer last month that it's worth a new release. Let's have a look at least at some of the stuff we prepared for you:

Geocaching - automatic image downloading

A treat for some geocachers - images accompanying listings of geocaches can be downloaded automatically without need to use the GC Offlinizer. Necessary settings can be found at a traditional place Settings > Geocaching > Auto-load images:

Three options are available:

Disabled - auto-load is turned off, only texts will be downloaded and you'll save some money for your mobile data

Image caching - the images are downloaded only temporarily for the time you use the app - they are deleted after restart. You'll save some storage space.

Image downloading - the images are downloaded and stored in Locus/data/geocaching folder and you can work with them any time for how long you need until you delete them manually

TCX as an activity

And now something for Garmin-lovers. TCX is a format for import/export of tracks/routes from/to Garmin devices. Yes, there are still a lot of people who use them despite there is Locus - so far, smartphones haven't overrun durability and battery capacity of these devices in rough conditions. We've added the "Activity" mode to the export - in this, all possible information about your workout is written to the TCX file - heart rate, cadence, etc., which can be correctly uploaded to various sport stats websites like Garmin Connect or Runalyze. The other mode, "Course", contains just basic information about the track. The settings can be found in the detail screen of the TCX export:

A new point default location selection

Until now the only default location method for creating a new point has been the map cursor position. Many of you prefer inserting points on a fixed GPS position so we added a setting where you can select between these two methods. You'll find them in Settings > Maps > Points&tracks > New point default location:

Quick clipboard copying of coordinates

Locus provides many options of sharing your location. Some of you wanted one more and above all the geocachers will welcome the quickest way of copying the map cursor coordinates to the clipboard - just hold your finger on the top panel. Don't forget to display the coords on it first as can be seen on the screenshot:

And that's it in a nutshell - however, much more has been done as you can find out in the release notes in Menu > About application > Release notes. Thank you for following us and enjoy the spring with Locus!
