Zugegeben, die Überschrift könnte leicht missverstanden werden, Faktum ist das wir zwei Apps präsentieren, oder - um es exakter zu formulieren - eine neue Version von Locus Map und ein brandneues Addon. Aber alles der Reihe nach, das neue Addon ist nur das Sahnhäubchen. Fürs Erste zur Frage welche Neuerungen bringt das neue Locus Map 3.11.0?

Ein besseres Zusammenspiel von Locus Map mit der SD-Karte ab Android 5.0

Wie allgemein bekannt verursachte Android 4.4.2. massive Probleme da es die Schreibrechte auf die SD-Karte für Programme radikal beschnitt. Wir haben darüber in unseren Blog berichtet und widmeten diesen Problem ein eigenes Kapitel in unserem Bedienerhandbuch. Android 5.0 brachte einige Änderungen die es Locus Map wieder erlaubten auf die SD-Karte zu schreiben, zumindest teilweise. Mittlerweile können Sie wieder einige Ordner auf die SD-Karte auslagern: den Ordner mit den Vektorkarten (mapsVector/), die SRTM Höhendaten (diese sind vor allen für die Geländeschattierung nützlich - data/srtm/) und den Ordner für die Sicherungen (backup/). Leider ist das aber auch schon alles - mehr ist zur Zeit nicht möglich. Auch nicht nachdem Menion eine ganze Woche investiert hat um eine Möglichkeit zu finden diese kuriose Idee von Google zu umschiffen. Somit empfehlen wir weiterhin Locus Map und den Hauptorder der Karten, in dem Locus die heruntergeladenen Karten speichert, im internen Speicher zu belassen. (Die heruntergeladenen Karten können anschliessend in einen externen Ordner auf die SD-Karte verschoben und im Kartenmanager wieder eingebunden werden.)

Einfache Feldnotizen direkt in Locus Map

Und hier einen Leckbissen für die Geocacher! Profis wissen das es Feldnotizen (Field Notes) ermöglichen Caches offline "draußen vor Ort" zu loggen und die Daten später - wenn ein WIFI Hotspot verfügbar ist - in einem Stück an Geocaching.com zu übertragen. Dafür hat unser Freund Jarda Kvapil das fantastische und anspruchsvolle Locus Addon FieldNotes geschrieben, das er auch ständig weiter entwickelt. Leider ist es jedoch so das viele Geocacher davor zurückschrecken dieses Addon extra zu installieren und somit nicht die Vorteile der Field Notes lukrieren können. Für diese Geocacher haben wir wieder einige einfache Funktionen der Field Notes direkt in Locus Map integriert - anlegen von Field Notes, diese in eine Datei zu exportieren und deren logging. Die weitergehenden Funktionen wie das Filtern, das Sortieren oder die Statistikfunktionen bleiben weiter dem ausgeklügelten FielNote Addon vorbehalten.

Nun können Sie auch die Berge der Alpen aus der Vogelperspektive bewundern - mit einer hochqualitativen Luftbildkarte zum NULLTARIF! Basemap.at, ein Projekt der neun Österreichischen Bundesländer und Ihrer Partner wurde in zwei verschiedenen Versionen zum Portfolio unseres Locus Stores hinzugefügt - sowohl die normale Karte als auch die Luftbildkarte. Die Karten können online verwendet werden, sie können ohne Limit gecached und kostenlos für die Offline-Verwendung heruntergeladen werden. Pro Tag können maximal 25.000 Tiles geladen werden - das ist die einzige Einschränkung. In Verbindung mit den Outdooractive Wanderkarten wird Ihre Tourenplanung in Österreich zum puren Vergnügen, sind das nicht gute Aussichten?

Plazieren Sie den GPS-Marker wohin Sie wollen

Auf Grund vielfachen Wunsch haben wir die freie Wahl der Position des GPS-Markes auf der Karte implementiert. Wenn Sie sich also (zB) in Richtung NordWest bewegen ist es sehr praktisch den GPS-Marker in der rechte untere Ecke des Kartenbildes zu positionieren - damit haben Sie einen wesentlich grösseren sichtbaren Bereich der Karte in Marschrichtung vor sich. Das Versetzen des GPS-Markers ist denkbar einfach - tippen sie lange auf die Schaltfläche "Karte zentrieren" links unten, wählen Sie Position des Kartenmittelpunktes ändern und bestätigen Sie. Zum Rückstellen des GPS-Markers reicht ein Doppeltip auf die selbe Schaltfläche.

Bootmarks

Hier etwas für fortgeschrittene User. Wir haben eine Funktion implementiert die es ermöglicht URLs mit variablen Parametern zu kreieren. Sie können mit dieser Funktion Links zu Ihren bevorzugten Websites generieren in denen die aktuellen Koordinaten oder der Zoomlevel oder die Zeit mit einem Klick übergeben werden können zB um damit auf einer Website automatisch Ihre aktuelle Position anzusteuern. Sie finden diese Funktion in Menü > Mehr ganz unten.

Locus Map auf einer Armbanduhr?

Nun kommen wir zum versprochenen Sahnehäubchen das jedoch nicht für alle eines ist. Nur Besitzer der Sony SmartWatch2 profitieren davon. Sie lag für einige Zeit auf dem Schreibtisch von Menion herum - also hat er dann schlussendlich ein Addon entwickelt mit dem die SmartWatch2 über Bluetooth mit Locus Map auf dem Smartphone kommunizieren kann. Die SmartWatch zeigt Ihre Position auf der Karte, sie führt Sie mit Hilfe von Karte oder Kompass an Ihr Ziel, Sie können die Trackaufzeichnung starten, stoppen oder pausieren, zwischen verschiedenen Aufzeichnungsprofilen umschalten oder einen Wegpunkt hinzufügen. Die ganze wirkliche Arbeit wie der GPS Positionsfix oder die Trackaufzeichnung wird dabei von der Vollversion von Locus Map auf Ihren Smartphone oder Tablet in Ihrer Tasche oder im Rucksack erledigt. Die SmartWatch dient dabei als externes Display.

Bitte betrachten Sie das Ganze ist als eine Art Vorläufer der kommenden, vielseitigeren Android Wear. Hier können wir ein erstes Feedback unserer User einarbeiten und die Möglichkeiten einer kommenden Version "Locus for wearables" ausloten.

Weekends in Rychlebske Mountains have become my "highlights" since I with my coleague were invited by Cerna Voda major Pavel Hornik to map local famous bike trails. A lot of things have changed since then - Rychlebske trails boomed into a MTB resort offering more than 60 km of trails of various difficulty, beginning with easily flowing paths ridable by kids ending up in the hills with rocky trails for hardcore riders. And Pavel is not major any longer, being fully concentrated on his dream project. And the result is apparent - the trails keep winning various visitor polls, the region revived with a wave of bikers not only from Czech rep but also from nearby Poland and Slovakia.

It's not about the trails only. Rychlebske Mountains overpower you with their simple and pure beauty, where you can spent your time many ways, no to just on a bike. Therefore I welcomed when we made a free weekend, threw stuff and kids in the car, the bikes on the roof rack and were looking forward to the arrival for the next 150 kms.

Day 1 - Locus Map on trail

Saturday we devoted to the main allure - ride along the Rychlebske trails. The family and bikes were ready right after the breakfest, the youngest one buckled up in the child seat and we merrily set off. That reminds me - the phone mounted on the steering bar and Locus transformed into a cyclecomputer (dashboard, guiding along the route rather because of my-geek-self as the trails are perfectly marked, and of course the track recording on). When you come with kids the Northern side of the resort is the primary choice - we start with the trail along the romantic valley of Cerny potok (Black brook). The trail is empty, just from time to time we let someone quicker pass by. Most bikers concentrate in the more demanding parts on the foot of Sokoli vrch.

We are having a break on the bridge across the Cerny potok. Boys are building a dam and throwing pebbles in the water, the rest of us is having a snack in the grass. The youngest kid peacefully sleeps buckled up in the seat. Overviewing Locus I found out we had ridden about a quarter of our trip so we slowly got up and moved. Waves and banks of the playful circular trail near Vidnava comes next. The recently built trail is really enjoyable both for us and the kids. One hill left and the long awaited refreshment in a Vidnava pub follows. We got pretty hungry!

On the way back we are enjoying the bucolic countryside along forest tracks and the trail of the Czech forestry.

It was beautiful and very intense, mainly for the kids - we rolled some 29 km in the wavy terrain. Being connected on wifi at our cabin I export the trip to my friends on Runkeeper. Now it's time to rest. Sitting at a camp fire with a view of sunlit Sokoli vrch we bid farewell to the first day.

Day 2 - geocaching with Locus

It's a long way home so we can't afford another whole day trip. I planned a decent circular walk across the hills nearby Zulova, accompanied by hunt for a couple of geocaches. I downloaded local treasures to my mobile via the Geocaching4Locus. Three will do for today - the hills where we are going to fetch them are pretty steep - Bozi hora and Borovy vrch are awaiting us. Both hills are of igneous origin and the material they are made of (granite) named the nearby town - Zulova. The baby in the backpack seat seems to weigh twice as much when we are struggling upwards the first hill. The geocache named "wedding" is hidden out of the path somewhere under the summit. Locus Map leads us without compromises. Its geocache alarm starts beeping in my pocket 100 meters from the cache and quickens meter by meter. "Daddy, you're like a ticking bomb", my sons announce. They're damn right when I completely exhausted and dripping sweat explode in a hilarious enthusiasm finding the cache. The same at another treasure that was hidden in a rock right next to the church of Our Lady of Sorrows. There are quite remarkable views of the town from there. My alarm starts beeping for the last time on the foot of the neighboring Borovy. Not this time was it hard to find the cache although there were loads of hiding places among the barren boulders. The GPS is relentless and is beeping "zero" perhaps a meter from the cache. I'm logging offline via the Fieldnotes addon while the kids are playing hide and seek among the rocks. Anyway I would seek the GSM signal in vain in this place. It's noon, our bellies are rumbling again so we head on downhill towards the civilization. Anyway, it's a granite stone's throw from Borovy and so our hunger can be saturated soon. Well, I'm looking forward to getting back here again, sometime in the middle of summer - we'll explore local flooded quarries offering cool swimming refreshment. And as I can see in the Locus Maps, there are many of them!
