A few weeks have passed and we are releasing a new Locus Map version again. It's slightly graphically tuned, its controlling is a little bit more intuitive, and it brings one fundamental change - it's possible to get LoCoins for your maps other way than by in-app purchase.

Recommend Locus Map to your friends and get rewarded!

If you love using Locus Map for your outdoor activities so much that you would like to share your pleasure with your family or friends, you can simply send them Locus recommendation. Not only you'll be rewarded by the good feeling that you spread the right word but, furthermore, one successful installation based on your recommendation brings up to 25 LoCoins (that's e.g. complete vector offline LoMap of Colorado) to your credit, depends on the Locus Map version the recommended person installs. 25 LC for Pro version, 10 LC for Free version.

How to do it?

It's simple - go to the main Menu and tap Recommend Locus Map link. Enter e-mails of your friends to the empty fields and tap Recommend. If you need additional free sockets, you can add them by tapping +. And that's all folks. Your friends will receive invitation e-mails with instructions how to install Locus Map. If they install the app successfully and enter Locus Store on the account with the e-mail you sent your recommendation to, your credit will be increased by the reward.

Locus Map recommendation can be accessed also the other way - a new offer of free LoCoins was added to the LoCoin bundles price list in your user profile that can direct you to the recommendation page as well.

Are recommendations limited?

No, the procedure can be repeated any time, you can sent the recommendation to any number of your friends - your LoCoin credit can grow all the time.

What about other Locus Map improvements?

• We extended options of GPSies.com track search - fulltext search in track names and descriptions, selection of track type (one-way, round) and length range selection. Activities are newly distinguished by icons.
  
• We divided the points and tracks adding dialog in data manager - each tab has its own dialog - it much clearer and simpler.
  
  
• We added four pre-defined bookmarks to the Quick WWW bookmark feature - Google Maps, Bikemap.net, Wandermap.net and Czech Cykloatlas Online, part of Cykloserver.cz.
  
• We clarified the main menu - new editable buttons were added, less used links were moved to subfolders.
  
• Many minor improvements of controlling, graphics and overall functionality.

Another feature we are going to present in this blog is Live tracking. For those who don't have clue - in short, Live tracking is distant real-time online monitoring of someone's position. In practice it can be useful in many cases - you can keep your friends informed about your bike trip or your position in a competition or wandering in the woods. Many parents will enjoy their peaceful sleep when they know where their offspring is during a weekend spree with his or her friends...

Technically you need a mobile phone with GPS and internet connection, an live tracking app - Locus Map particularly - and a web service, either dedicated or external. And that's our case - we'll show this feature on the live tracking function of the GPSies.com website.

Step one - GPSies.com

We've mentioned GPSies.com a few times here regarding Locus Map's connection to its vast track database. So you know you need to be registered and logged in to use GPSies services. Live tracking function can be found in Discover menu. The map window displays positions of users connected with their devices to the live tracking service. You can monitor either all of them at once or select one of them in the menu on the right. Each user displays its position and some other values - local time, average speed, pace, passed distance or time on the track.

So as to set your Live tracking in Locus Map you need your personal GPSies live tracking PIN - it can be found in the Instructions window:

The other information in the window can be ignored.

Step two - Live tracking settings in Locus Map

• launch Locus Map and tap Live tracking in the main Menu > More
• tap + button and insert name of a new live tracking - GPSies
• a new item appears in the list - tap it and fill in the update parameters and base URL - http://www.gpsies.com/liveTracking.do

• then go on with Data section. Tap ADD button and add two text fields with keys username and pin (insert your GPSies username and Live Tracking PIN in the “value” fields), then add latitude (not abbreviation “lat”!) and longitude keys (leave “value” blank) and requestTimestamp key with {s} in value field:

Step three - start Live tracking

Tap START button in upper bar.

Loads of features. Loads of maps to download. Loads of settings and customizations. One thing was missing - loads of tracks to download. Until now.

Welcome to GPSies!

There are many options how to get tracks into Locus Map - record them, import them from files... And import them directly from some web database. Until now we have offered connection to regional services like Trail.pl or Vylety-zabava.cz. So far so good but guys from Germany or USA, not mentioning the rest of the World, had to download their favorite tracks manually as GPX files and then copy/import them to Locus Map. Laborious, time consuming, annoying.

Beginning with Locus Map version 3.12.0. we are presenting a brand new, fast and comfortable connection to one of the vastest worldwide track databases - GPSies.com

How to get those 3.000,000 tracks in my phone?

• go to Locus Map > Main menu > Web services > GPSies
• log in GPSies.com
• tap Search
• select activity - hiking, running, cycling...
• set radius around you or the cursor position on the map
• check if you want to display only your own or private tracks
• browse tracks in the list of search results - select one according to its elevation profile, length or elevation gain, or map preview ("eye" button)
• download selected track
• the track appears in GPSies folder in Data manager items tab - tap to display it on map

Can I check what tracks I've already downloaded?

Yes, tap Downloaded in Web services > GPSies main menu. You'll get straight to the GPSies folder in Data manager.

Can I export my tracks to GPSies.com?

Of course you can. There are two ways:

• from the Web services > GPSies - tap Export in the main GPSies menu and select a track from your Locus Map database
• from the track detail screen menu - select a track, tap menu button in the bottom right, select Export > tap Export type > select GPSies

Enhanced navigation auto recalculation

Upon numerous requests of you we looked into the navigation auto recalculation feature and as a result there are two options of its setting:

Point priority

When leaving the route navigation recalculates to the nearest "via" point of the route or, if there are no via points, to the route's final point. Useful for cases when you need to get from point A to point B and the route in between doesn't matter - navigation to a point.

Route priority

When you leave a pre-defined route because of a detour or unexpected obstacle, navigation tries to recalculate the way to get back to the pre-defined route as soon as possible. Suitable for trips where you need to follow the pre-defined route exactly - e.g. on bike rides, when hiking etc. - navigation along a route.

The setting can be found in Menu > Settings > Navigation > Auto-recalculation.

Is that all?

Not at all! The new release contains a lot of improvements in graphics, mainly in dialogs and screens, in usability, minor fixes etc. As usual, we keep moving!
